  1. What is hosting?
    Hosting is the term used to describe the service typically provided by Internet Service Providers (ISPs) or hosting companies. This service is essential to provide a location where an Internet user can browse to view your web site. Every web site out there is hosted on a computer that is directly connected to the Internet backbone.

  2. What is parking?
    Parking is the minimal version of hosting. Typically your web site is a single page that shows your name and contact information such as an e-mail address. Parking a domain is often a good idea when you are not ready to build your web site but want to "grab" the domain name before your competitior does. It is the cheapest form of hosting. The important thing is you own your domain and can move it anywhere.

  3. Do I have to host my domain with PSNI?
    No. You can use any ISP or hosting company.

    If you plan on using an ISP other than PSNI you will need to know the ISP's contact information to fill in the Technical Contact information part of the domain registration process along with their nameserver information. Best advise is to contact your ISP for this information before you register your domain.

  4. Can I do my own hosting?
    Yes! Anyone can host their own domain/web site but they must have a server that has a web server that can take requests to view your web site and send the Internet browser the page it requested. You must also have a high speed link to the Internet. If your link to the Internet is a dial up modem most of the potential viewers will get tired of waiting to download your web page they will hit the stop button and go else where. You also need supporting services such as Domain Name Servers & Mail Servers.

    This is not recommended for the novice user or business owner as it can technical nightmare if you do not have the proper knowledge or skills. Not to mention the fact most business owners are experts in their business not domain hosting or web design.
